Exit Strategy

Using images accumulated since the acquisition of several capturing devices and collected from family photo albums Exit Strategy presents an exhibition of photo mash-ups studying the principles of hybridization.

The digital images are overlapped or mashed-up with fragments of external imagery that are selected from all types of sources offline and online.  The purpose of this hybridising is meant to be an appropriation of the synthesis of meaning.  Because the synthesis of imagery is endemic in the digital age and is beginning to be more automated I felt it important reacquire means of manipulation the image and the meaning of my images.  To create my own impacting imagery and narrative.

The basic technical consideration of the project has been to produce imagery using a most basic and consistent set of techniques using current photo editing applications like color separation, cut out and overlaying filters simplifying the images.  The desired product is to enhance the dramatic and artificial nature of the imagery but also to move towards these processes which once where incepted by manual production methods in drawing and print making.

Whether consciously or subconsciously inspired by the original source image or influenced by the discovery of external fragment imagery, narrative or current event it is hoped that the subject matter reproduced by this body of work will for my guests a compelling visceral and intellectual exploration. I hope you will enjoy.
